Hunting Journal
West Central Illinois has long been known for
producing World Class Whitetails.  Located in the
fertile Sangamon and Illinois River Valley, MBO
offers you the opportunity for your “Hunt of a
Lifetime.”  Deer management practices consisting of
controlled doe harvests and only taking mature trophy
whitetails along with the richest agricultural crops
and intensely managed food plots provide the deer
herd with the nutrition needed to produce your
Trophy Whitetail.  Our properties range from hilly
woodlands to river bottom cropland, and these
properties are scouted year around to gain valuable
information that will make your whitetail hunt one to
remember for years to come.

DOVE
Most treestands are hung in August.  We do this to allow deer and other game to
get used to them by hunting season.  Each property will have several different
stands available to hunt different wind directions and conditions to maximize your
opportunity for success.
At MBO, there are no trophy fees.  You are already paying a fee to hunt, and there
are no reasons why you should incur a larger fee for harvesting a trophy whitetail.
A whitetail deer’s nose is his #1 defense.  A hunt can be won or lost depending on
how you control your scent.  Other than safety, scent control is our #1 priority.
At MBO, we will do everything in our power to help you “play the wind.”  However,
there are times when your trophy may walk up a trail from down wind.  We highly
recommend wearing scent control clothing, and keeping it in a scent tight bag so you
can get dressed in the field.  Scent control clothing, spray, and cover scents will do
absolutely no good if you smell like food, cigarette smoke, or anything foreign while
you are in your treestand.
Archery Hunts:  Archery hunts are offered in 5
day packages.  Only 8 hunters per week are allowed
on MBO properties.  This allows for higher quality
hunts, and farms to be rested for at least 1 week at
a time.  2006 application dates are yet to be
determined.  For more information visit

Firearm Hunts:  Only a limited number of firearm
hunts are available each year.  Rifles are not
allowed in Illinois, only shotgun or muzzleloader.
Hunts will take place from treestands, box blinds,
or ground blinds.  For father/son combinations the
box blinds, ground blinds or buddy stands are a
great way to share your hunting experience
together.
2006 firearm seasons are:
1st season – Nov. 17-19; 2nd season – Nov. 30-Dec.
3.  Applications will be available in late July for
non-resident hunters.

Muzzleloader Hunts:  From Dec. 8-10 we offer a muzzleloader only hunt.
Applications will be available in late July for non-resident hunters.
